Can any one give me any info on the extra doe deer tags fall/winter. how many can you get, what can you use to hunt with, etc.
any input would be appreciated.
if its the same as last year, the bonus season will be right after late muzzleloader season, lasting a week. only certain counties will have a bonus season, last year it was the 2 southernmost tiers, plus one or two others. each county is allowed a set number of tags, depending on how high the population is. i think you can only get 1 tag, until the opening day of the bonus season, then, if there are any tags left for the county you wish to hunt, you can go get as many as you want
Youngbuck,
I think most counties in Iowa, like the past three or four years are issuing bonus tags for does. They will go on sale on Oct 1 until they are sold out for that particular county. Your first one is $25 and everyone after that is $11 if I remember correctly. I think they are for archery however I am not sure on that one. But, you can buy as many as you want until they are gone. There is also the late bonus season as teeroy mentioned.
Maybe it has changed, but in the last 2 years you couldn't get the bonus doe tags for 1st or 2nd shotgun season or early muzzleloader. Also, they went on sale sometime in August on a first come first served basis. The number per county varied from 50 to 800, depending on which county you wanted them in. Going to check the DNR site to see if there's any information about changes for this year. Good luck!
I think there is some new info coming out next week (8-11) concerning bonus tags. I had heard there is an increase over last years tags. The deer herd is about 15% over what the DNR wants it to be.
