Boo.

Nothing like that surprises me anymore. I swear half of these so-called pro's would slit their own mothers throats for a shot at a trophy deer. But just like in society today ethics and character aren't taught anymore. And I'm not saying no one teaches it to their kids, just that fewer and fewer people do. But just turn on the news and you can see that kind of thing every where. Hell Mr. Spirit of the Wild was just cited in California for the same thing not that long ago. It's a way of the times.

Those fines don't look like much of a deterrent.....

Well said. Although the article doesn't mention it, I wonder if there are Federal charges pending with our OLE involved (Lacey Act violation). I know they, along with the DOJ, love to make examples of folks like this and having Federal charges in your background tends to go a long way as a deterrent.

Haha, ever since I saw that dude shoot that monster on the LW video and then proceed to look at the camera and say "I just shot the new WI state record" in the cockiest of tones I haven't liked him. From what I have heard from others this was a long time coming and well deserved.

AZ, if the state charged them the Justice Dept. usually does not file. Although, the charges are different and it is not double jeopardy the charges would be from the same incident and DOJ does not charge.

I'd say they got off pretty darn easy. They still probably payed less in fines than they did, or would have, for a top notch outfitter. Not sending much of a message.

Very true.

Penalties for any crime committed now days are not stiff enough - it's not a deterrant at all.

Actually, Jdubs, as someone who works with FWS LE and DOJ on a regular basis, I know they can and often do, especially if the FWS wants to make an example. You are not incorrect, but I've seen it happen quite a few times in my short 7 years with FWS.

agreed...although there should be a balance somewhere. Make it hurt, yet don't take the man's family inheritance to provide for his family...

Seems this is on the light side of things....

Why not? If they are dumb enough to put a family inheritance in jeopardy then so be it. I'm sick of criminals getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist - and in this case what they got was a slap on the wrist.

Doesn't have to be all money either......at least in hunting crimes.... actual jail time, long stints of community service, loss of hunting privleges nationwide for X amount of years etc might be a starter...this liberal society of complete panty wastes not willing to stand up for what is right and prosecute people to the fullest extent possible is a bunch of BS IMO...and if the fullest extent is just a slap on the wrist, then make it tougher. I bet it would have hurt Mr Big shot if he'd have lost nationwide hunting priveleges for a few years.

Not directed at you Gladiator, just the system. :D

Shoot2

No offense taken...I agree it is too light. Just need some balance here....seems hardly even a slap in the wrist...maybe a mosquito bite?? :way:
