Boots

I know this could go in the gear thread, and I know this has been hashed out over and over, but am looking for some insight. I have always worn lace up Danners or Rockies up until two years ago when I got some tall rubber boots for Christmas. They were a knock off brand but they worked for treestand hunting. My dilemma is that I have broken my ankle three times so I need boots with support, and also I need something that will keep my feet warm due to the lack of bloodflow in my ankle. I am considering a pair of Muck's because I have heard nothing but great things about them, or a new pair of Danners/Meindel/Irish Setters. I need something that will keep my feet warm on those long cold November sits, and also something that will get me enough support so I don't roll my ankle on every acorn I step on. Also I will be hunting out of a climber some so the boots can't be too bulky to not fit in the climbing stirrups on my stand. Insight, experiences, and information is welcome from anyone. Thanks.

dont know if you have tried the tall lace up boots. i had a pair of rocky's that were 12 inch 1200 grams lots of support and warm, don't know if you could slip them on that easy in your condition or not? great boots, would wear them trout fishing all winter long. great waterproofing, could walk right across the streams in teens to 30's temps and never got wet!

I have got a bad ankle and only use lace up boots. Used to wear rubber but they killed my ankle. I haven't tried muck boots though. I went through 3 pairs of danners in 3 years and will not buy them again. I then bought a pair of Irish Setter gun boots for like $110 and I am going on my 4th year with them. I can't believe it to be honest. Waterproof and warm. If it gets super cold Artic Shield boot covers will keep your feet warm and are easy to put on.

The old military mickey mouse rubber boots have great support and are about as warm as you can get. I wear size 14W boots and have no issues with my climber.

I should clarify that my ankle is not currently broken, but that I have broke it 3 times in the past playing sports. It was never plated which makes it weak and causes the lack of blood flow. I am open to any suggestion. Any idea what model the Rockies were?

sorry but i dont, i actually got them on ebay for like 40 bucks(pretty sweet deal). i would really like to get another pair but haven't looked for any yet. i have had them for like 5 years and the seams aren't very waterproof anymore. if you got a good boot that isn't super warm, i to broke my ankle and have problems, i agree and have the arctic shield warmers they are good. just put them on right away when you get to stand. if your looking for just any taller boot i got some from the sportsmans guide a couple of years ago for pretty cheap.

I have a similar problem with a bad ankle, and searched a lot for good boots. Rubber boots were nice, but like you said, not a lot of support. Lace ups are good for the ankles, but I wanted something quicker and easier to put on with good support. Bought a pair of Cabelas Still Hunter Pac's last year, and they are awesome. 15" tall, zip up sides, 1400gm insulation and waterproof. And they give me great ankle support. Plus very, very warm. Downside is your feet will get hot on warmer days, but they are great for a cold day on the stand. I see you are from NE Iowa, if you are ever over at the PDC Cabelas, try a pair on.

Headed there tomorrow to try some different pairs on. One of the reasons I started this post now

looking at the rocky website they remind me of the ridgestalker model. i know they were a much older model, but would proably compare them closest to them.

I have 2 pair of Muck boots, and love them, but if you've got ankle problems I think you'd be happier with a lace up style boot...probably not going to give you the tight ankle support you're looking for.
