Bow hunting packs and climber stands

I am looking ahead to next bow season already, and I have myself talke into getting a good climber like a Summit before then. I currently have 7 to 8 hang ons that I hang early and hunt all season. I feel like being more mobile though next year. My question is what do any of you that use climbers currently use to pack in accessories? I currently have a large field line back pack loaded with all kinds of things. I do tend to over pack, but I am curious what to do if I have a climber strapped to my back, no room for the back pack.

You shouldn't have any problem carrying a pack with your climbing stand. Sometimes you have to be resourceful in how you carry the pack but once you figure it out it's easy.

With the summit climber you can just set your backpack on the the back of it and strap it down with a bungee cord. The summit will have backpack straps to carry the stand and you wont even notice your pack strapped on the back.

I have a property that has a lot of straight, limbless trees. I used the LW hand climber this year, and to say I impressed is understatement. This stand is silent, easy to use, and packs down to a thin package. The open seat is a must imo for a bow hunter. The belts slide into the stand quietly, and this is an easy stand to climb with.
As far as packs, I have a Badlands 2200, but my Horn Hunter Western pack in Predator Deception, is what I use to bow hunt and carry my Lone wolf climber, or my lw alpha. It has many gear carrying buckles on it's back, that lineup perfectly for the LW honeycomb. These Horn hunter packs are the perfect LW carrier and outshine the 2200 imo. Good luck. For what it's worth, I had a Summit Viper and sold it. The lw hand climber outshines it for a bow hunter imo

Hardcore,

On your LW hand climber do you use the strap that hangs below the seat so you can use it like a sit and climb or do you just use the seat and not the strap? I have both the LW sit and climb and hand climber and always use the sit and climb because the hand climber seems much harder to work. I have the strap that hangs below the seat so it makes it much better, but was just wondering. I was told when I bought it that the hand climber is harder to work for taller guys without using the bottom strap and it seems to be from what I have seen. There just isn't a great handle to hold onto the seat with when climbing.

Whe i use a climber I usually switch to a large fanny pack to carry all of my gear. It fits nicely on the climber.

L4R; I am 6'3" and I use the climber without the sit strap. I use the belt or tree to hold unto(usually the belt) and place my forearms in the padded area of the seat. Try this a couple of times, and it really is a breeze and you won't want the sit strap. My girlfriend loves this stand too and she runs right up trees fast with it doing the same method I do. We both tried the sit strap feature and neither of us wanted it on the stand and it is removed.

I will have to try it. Out of the 3 years I have had both stands I have probably only used the hand climber once and the sit and climb 4 times. I am sure practice would help a lot. Unfortunately, I don't have many areas with straight trees, I do love the stands though.

Yea, it took a couple of times using the hand climber to really have it all come together. I hear a lot of complaints about the seat on the sit and climb being to narrow and made for a super skinny guy. You have the same issue? I know that I just like openness in a seat and I don't like any sling seat or a bar around me when I bow hunting.

I am definitely not skinny by any means at all. 6'1 240lbs and the seat works fine with plenty of room. When I first bought the stand I had the old style seat on it, which really sucked. I bought the new style and it is much better. I also see they make an extra wide seat for them now which may be nice if you sat down a lot.

To be honest with you, I barely rarely sit down when I hunt. I always stand. I may sit a total of a half hour in a half days sit. I thought the bar would be a nuisance on the sit and climb, but its not. When your are sitting down it is actually tucked underneath your legs and is used as a support for the seat so it does not get in the way at all. When you stand though you only have about half the platform. What I do is put the bar in front of me angled down about 45 degrees. I then take the seat and bunch it up next to the tree. When you do this it is no different than an alpha hang on and the bar is not in the way at all.

When I bought mine I intially bought the sit and climb then I bought the hand climber top separately for $100. I figured it would be nice to have both of them. One thing I do love about the hand climber is once your in the tree, you can just take the seat off and clip it on your backpack and then all you have is the platform. I do love that feature!!

L4R.. I wish the seat on my hand climber would fold up like an Alpha does...that would be a nice feature. I like to stand at times too, and the seat needs to fold out of the way. I have this Gorilla seat/platform that is rated for 300# and it folds up and has self leveling screw exactly like the LW alpha.
