I have done a little bowfishing in the last couple years. And my bows have taken a tremendous beating. There is no doubt in my mind that it is hard on bows.
I first started with a Mathews Blackmax. That was a a 60-70 pound bow. My carbon arrows were around 300fps. I shoot mainly into the rocks and it ruined many arrows. I dont have carp in my area, I have suckers and redhorse which are the same family. I shoot into shallow creeks when the fish run in the spring.
A few other people in my town have bowfished in the same area. Several use long bows, and another guy sits in a deep pool below the dam in our town on a ladder and shoots a compoundbow.
If I do it again, which I probably will, I might tape the reel to my fathers recurve.
Aiming into water at an angle is a guessing game anyways so my instincive shooting cant be much worse than my aiming. And for those of you that are going to say that aiming does NOT work at all, i have to say it does. I shoot directly down from above or from ground level out into the water as much perpidicular (sp) as I can get. And it pretty much is put the pin on them and let it fly.
