Todays hunt actually started for me yesterday evening. I watched 6 mature gobblers strutting around my hunting area just before sundown. I was pretty excited about this mornings hunt, as I knew I would be surrounded by gobbling turkeys.... wrong. Not one single gobble this morning, or all day for that matter. I did manage to call in several hens and some deer, one of them a buck with about 3" of new antlers.
Well about 10am I decided to leave and go to a different spot. I got back to my truck and noticed I left my bow quiver where I was sitting. I took it at as a message to stay where I was.So I slammed a drink of water and unloaded my jacket and headed back to my spot.
About 12 I saw two big toms down the hill about 150 yards away heading my direction. Neither of them ever gobbled or went into full strut, one would half strut but his heart was'nt into it. I figured I would put the calls down and see how close they came. I was kind of on the clock because we have to stop hunting at 1pm here and those old toms were'nt about to hurry for me.Well at 12:40 they were 25 yards away and just layed down in the grass (I guess they were pretending to be deer). After about 10 minutes of that I'd had enough and started looking for an open shot through the hedge trees. After crawling 10 yards closer one of them got up and offered me a 15 yard broadside shot, I slammed him in the butt of his left wing with my arrow and he went straight down.I looked at my watch while I was standing on 'em 12:54, just in time.
Here's the specs 26 lbs,10" beard and 1 7/16 spurs.
