I know there are a few MMA fans out there...

Any one want to take some wagers on UFC 81: Breaking Point Saturday Night?

Lesnar VS Mir

and

Sylvia VS Nogueira

Im not a die hard UFC fan or anything but love watching the fights. Ive seen the last few PPV fights and being a Minnesota boy I gotta cheer for Lesnar all the way. He should have a helleva fight if Mir shows up like he used to fight. Pure raw strenghth against an absolute submission expert.
And the I gotta pick Sylvia as well.

Come on... anyone wanna take a guess at the winners?

Dean

Lesnar will win, Mir has looked like crap his last few fights and I think he lost his edge.

I will take Nogueira over Sylvia, Nogueira will take him down and Sylvia doesn't stand a chance just like the Coutre fight. I watched the Fedor vs. Nogueira fight and if Fedor can't finish someone they are a tough SOB, but then again anything can happen.

Horn vs Marquardt should be a great fight

Should be fun to watch.

Mir will sub Brock Lesnar. Lesnar has one fight under his belt. Mir has a ton, yea, Mir didn't look as good in his comeback fights after his wreck, but he has done alot better his last few. Mir's experience will win over Brock's inexperience in the cage.

Mir has also changed his training a ton. He is much leaner and alot more muscular than he has been.

I think Mir will beat Lesnar. I think Lesnar doesn't have enough experience. I want Sylvia to win but if it goes to the ground it will be tough for him.

I for one, do NOT want Tim Sylvia to win. Every fight he has been in long before the courter fight was a snooze fest. I hate watching him fight, he will do anything to go the distance. If it was the Tim from the old days when he actually tryed to knock people out, it wouldn't be to bad.

I still think Mir will submitt Lesnar. I think he will shoot while being to close to Mir, Mir will get him down and submitt him.

Lesnar will over power mir, and i think with ease. There has never been a 265 power house in mma. There have been big guys but most of them were pretty soggy. I think this guy is for real and is really going to make some people nervous.

Big MMA fan here. I have friends in New York that sell the Gamma-O product and sponsor shows. I get to see lots of back-stage photos... ha ha.

Personally I think this whole thing is just a big publicity stunt and one that could take away credibility of the UFC. You don't want to risk people thinking UFC fixes any matches like WWE does.

Mir has looked really bad since his accident, and I couldn't even believe he ever was a champ. Ive never saw Lesnars fight, but I think he will get rope-a-doped and gas out quick and Mir will submit him. I think we will see some blood.

I can't remember how Nogueira fights, but I think Sylvia is washed up also. I never thought Sylvia was that good of a fighter to begin with.

Frank is no "little" guy himself.

Big Nog is a scary man on the ground. Timmey better hope it does not go there.

Mir is going up against a beast, but I was really surprised to see how old Mir is. I think he is only in his mid 20's, but seems like he has been around a long time. Interesting fight.

Used to watch quite a bit of Pride fights and Nogueira is TUF! But again, that's been 2-3 years ago. Tough call but I think the Maine-iac won't make it.

I agree with the post above about not letting the UFC start to look like the WWE in respect to fights being staged or fixed. I have saw a couple fights lately that no doubt were given to the higher profile- more marketable fighter (see the Bisbain fight against Matt ??can't think of his last name??).

Cloaca, not picking on you, but what fight are you talking about? Micheal Bisping vs Matt Hamill?

Brock Lesar is a big, athletic, power lifting machine, but he is going agaist the #4 BJJ in the world for his weight division. Lesnar is very inexperienced in the cage, having alot of trouble in his training camp with BJJ guys, that are no where near Franks level.

Tonight in an interview, Lesnar said that the fight Saturday will be one of the biggest gambels of his life. What fighter says that? He's got a 3 fight contract, so why is the first the biggest gambel?

My prediction will be Frank will submit him in the first round.

Bisping vs. Hamill was the biggest crock decision I have ever seen, not sure what the judges were watching as I think at worst Hamill won the fight 29-28 and probably deserved a 30-27.

As far as the UFC being WWE, I am not sure if that will happen, it is sanctioned by the state athletic commission just as boxing is. The WWE on the other hand was strictly entertainment and those involved knew how to entertain and the outcome of the matches beforehand. I think there could be some rigging of fights because of the Vegas betting aspect but I don't see the UFC purposely picking winners to advance the sport, it is already the hottest sport out there and will continue as long as the talent is still around.

Lesnar is a big boy, I would like to see someone of his size be a dominant force and really know how to fight MMA, I am gonna give him the edge with just pure size and brute force. If you want to see his first fight go to youtube and you can see it, was short and pretty dominant but then again his opponent didn't really look like much.

WHAT? WWE fixes fights???? It looks so real. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I'll admit I'm not a MMA freak, but I do follow it the best I can. I agree with nanny in that Sylvia's are total borefest's. As far as the Mir/Lesnar fight the Hawkeye wrestling fan in me hopes Lesnar gets rolled up, but he was a D1 national champ. They don't just give those things out. With that kind of background I don't see him just gassing out, and I think he'll be pretty comfortable on the ground.

I highly doubt Lesnar will gas, he is a workout machine. Just the inexperience will be a big role in this fight. Mir has a ton of fights under him (not just UFC), and is in the top of the league in BJJ. Worst place for Lesnar is on the ground, that is where Frank is dominate.

I do predict, however, once Lesnar gets a few fights under him and gains some experience in some BJJ and striking, he will be a force in the HW division.

Yes that's the match. I was having a brain fart last night and couldn't come up with Hamill's name. I watched a rerun of it about 2 weeks ago knowing the outcome and could not see where Bisbain took any rounds, not even close. And then in the post fight interview he turns and tells Hamill to "go back to wrestlin!". Hamill definitly got homered on that one.

I think Lesner will get Mir on the ground, and then Mir will submit him from the bottom in the first round with a triangle choke.

Greg, A triangle choke? Are you serious? Have you seen Lensnars neck, he has no neck, there is no way he will loose to a triangle. And as far as him gassing out, he has been a professional athlete all his life, he knows a little about how to train.
Being good at BJJ means a little but rarely will it swing a fight. Its a nice tool to have but its not the cure all. Its like Bisping said about Sinosec,"Doing JJ is one thing and doing JJ when somone is punching you in the face is somthing totally different."

BJJ isn't Franks only tool. It's his best, but he has great takedowns, great takedown defense, and pretty good striking. Ask Wes Simms.
