BroadHead Sharpeners:

What is the best BroadHead Sharpener? Or is there a best one? There are about as many as broadheads. From the simple hand helds to elaborate pricy ones.

I use a G5 diamond steel, a Lansky and a leather strop to finish. Depending on the head, I may use one of the above, a combo or all 3.

I sharpen all my implements of destruction with a large two sided whetstone and finish with a ceramic stick.
Shaving sharp in no time.:way:

but Shovel...this sort of thing is right up your alley and your an expert no doubt. I struggled for many years to get the edge I wanted on my COC heads. Finally i cut a 2 X 4 out at a certain angle and slid two files on both sides...Walla success doing it myself. Sharpening is an artform for sure. There is nothing like shaving your arm hair off and sticking the arrow into the quiver.

How about the small hand held sharpeners? Really didn't want to spend 40$ to sharpen broadheads. Can buy replacement blades for that? Quite a few of them in fact for slick tricks.

I've had decent luck with these for sharpening filet style knifes, but personally have had next to no luck sharpening broadheads with them.

A cheap solution would be to take a 2x4 and cut a 18 or 19 Degree angle into it as V and place to files in it. It then would only run you the cost of the 2 files. I know mine is plenty adequate. I will try to remember to take a photo of it and post it.

Nothing special about doing it that way DOR. Just that when Dad taught me how to put an edge on when I was around 10 years old, it's all we had. The Gatco's and the like simply weren't around. You learn how or you have a dull knife.;)
Before I went to a ceramic stick around 15 years ago I was still using leather. Still would if I had a good strop.
P.S..............I still use the same whet stone that Dad taught me the ropes with.
I used to have a file setup like you mention for doing my Bodkins but I can't seem to remember where I put it away at. CRS:eek:
Don't make a difference what you use folks as long as it get's em sharp!!!!!:way:

I picked up one of the KME broadhead sharpeners everbody is raving about. A preschooler could get blades freightening sharp with this thing. It's not just for traditional style heads either......the thing is perfect for replaceble blades. It's not for one piece 3 blade COC's though.....

Had a look, a little pricey, but if they last a lifetime and are good value:way:

I would like to try one out.

River-Are you ready to sell me one of those spare Widows on the cheap yet?

I just bought the sharpening jig...like $35. Then picked up some flat stones locally.....cheaper way to go. Really, you think about what heads and replacement blades cost....it'll pay for itself in a couple years.

I'll let ya know....I hear they're carving out one sweet kill'n machine for a new model in 2010.:drink1:

Brian Wessel "Silvertip" on here is starting to sell some nice recurves if ya haven't heard. They're called "Tall Tines".
