Just curious if anyone has found any projectile points/knives or spearheads while out scouting the fields and streams this year. I found a couple of small side-notched birdpoints this year. In my opinion, the makers of these ancient "Broadheads" were the true hunters and crafsmen of yesterday.
 
xpin, bad habit of mine, have about 40 good points I've found, but find myself looking at the ground when I should be looking ahead of myself.

Birdpoints?! Where does anyone get the idea that Indians wasted their time shooting little birds to eat? Those "birdpoints" are true arrow points -used for killing deer and elk. Anything bigger were used as blades on spears or knives. Remember, that's solid rock on the end of a prehistoric arrow -anything the size of our modern steel broadheads wouldn't fly very far at all.
Sorry, just a pet peeve.

Looks like some sandbar or creek walking...way to go looks like a nice 3/4 groove axe. Sorry about the "birdpoint" lingo...bad habits picked up over the years. Good friend of mine picked up a nice looking flint piece lastweek after hanging tree-stands. Looks like it could be old too, maybe early archaic period. Nothing better than bow-hunting the same ground and finding artifacts from the people that lived here thousands of years ago!
 
xpin, you are correct, as far as I know. The intructions for description and use were not left with it.

I also use the term "birdpoint" occasionally as my own reference to the size class of projectile points that IMHO were probably the true arrowheads. Just another excuse to go to the woods. My wife will tell you I have plenty of those.

These pics are great, will be soon getting with the times and buying a digital camera...taking a snapshot before picking up that artifact is priceless. Send more pics!!! I FOUND 5 OR 6 ARROWHEADS IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.THE LAND OWNER IS A BIG COLLECTOR OF ARROWHEADS SO I GAVE THEM TO HIM.HE APPRECIATES IT AND AS MUCH AS I APPRECIATE HIM LETTING ME HUNT ON HIS FARM.
