I've been using the same style heads for the last 5 years or so. I really haven't been paying attention to the market because of that.

Browsing through a few different catalogs the other day I noticed that there are a lot of new design cut on contact heads, which kinda sparked my interest. So, I'm checking them out and noticing the prices on ALL the heads.

What happened to buying 6 heads in a package? Now you only get 3 and at the same price we bought a 6 pack in the past.

What a rip. A guy could easily spend $60.00 on 6 heads. A lot of them boast about their strength, but I've never seen a head you can't booger up. Especially if they blow through and end up in the ground.

Think I'll stick with the Woodsmans and Snuffers.

You can still buy a six pack of Muzzies for very near $30. The only reason I can think of to shoot something more expensive would be if the gain could be clearly proven. Maybe the fight stability of a mechanical, for instance, could be considered.

What do some of you see as clear advantages of other heads?

Nice comment Liv

I see a difference, but I guess you need to try some to make yourself a believer. The greatest advantages to a cut on contact to me are: fly better with less hassle of tuning, better penetration due to a continuous cutting surface, and if you dont get a complete pass through, the blade continues to cut inside as the deer moves.

Muzzys are a good head but I have not been able to make one tune right out of a short brace height bow....the montecs fly perfect or at least near perfect when others have not.

I have improved everything in my archery gear recently, bow, sight, arrows, etc. but I have to say I probably won't change my broadheads. I have been shooting thunderheads for 7 years, always get pass throughs and only one deer not recovered (I stuch him in the shoulder blade and saw him 3 times after this chasing does). I can still get 6 broadheads for 30 bucks and they will drop a deer everytime, and the best part is that in all the deer I have shot, I have only broke one blade off one thunderhead. They work for me and last a long time so I will stick with them.

I like the Montec design, one piece. I wish they would make them in a 3:1 ratio like the Woodsman. Also in various weights, say all the way up to 200 grains. Oh.. and while I'm wish'n, reduce the price.

S.G.H.
New for 2005, the S.G.H., is designed with the "critter" in mind where the goal is to "shock and tear" the prey without annihialting it. No longer will the small game hunter have to take a backseat to his big game counterparts.
Featuring a 1" cutting diameter, this three-bladed broadhead can be sharpened with a 1/4" round file in a similar method as resharpening a chain saw blade. Made from a single piece of stainless steel this head is durable enough to take repeated shots even from the most powerful new bows. Designed for all same game, (i.e. squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, raccoons!)

Here is the one for you mike!

I've been shooting Rib-Tek's out of my recurve for a few years now and have had no problems whatsoever. They tune easily and fly great. I shoot cedars and glue mine on. If your taper is good they seat great. They are not the "new" thing on the market but they work and I'll continue to use them. I have used the Magnus 2 blades also and they worked well for me . However the vented blades whistled in flight. I don't use the vented anymore. Any way if its price you are after the Rib-Tek goes for around 20.00 for a 6 pack.

Ive got 6 montecs 125 grain I would be willing to part with if some one offered me a fair price. Paid 60$.Would take around 40$. I will ship them free. web page
PM me if interested
