Broadheads

I know that a lot of you know how to answer this when you read the title. (jak-hammers

) But I just am curious if you were to shoot the new Rage Heads, would you shoot the 3 blades with 1/2 inch cut or would you shoot the 2 blades with 2 inch cut?? thanks guys!

I've been shooting jakhammers but I am SERIOUSLY considering buying some Rocket Hammerheads after witnessing first hand the havoc Muddy has been wreaking with them.

They are cheaper to buy and maintain than Jakhammers. Maybe I'm too caught up on the financial end of things?

What is not to like about a 2 inch cutting diameter?

Larger cutting diameter? Is this a good thing or bad? It takes more energy due to the extra tissue cut and will result in loss of penetration. Properly placed and especially on whitetail sized animals, it will make little difference. Improperly placed, it might cut more tissue and help or it might cut more tissue and stop the penetration short.

I for one, do not think it to be a good thing. I think more times than not, it becomes a bad thing. If your shot placement is OK, it won't matter either way.

gundog- You may want to look back to some threads last fall on here. I think that some guys were having trouble with the Rage broadheads opening up in flight or something. I personally don't use expandables for deer, but I'm sure a 2 blade will kill a deer just as dead as a 3 blade and vice versa.

Couldn't agree more! A bad shot is a bad shot and I won't be counting on a broadhead to save the day.

But, you have a much better chance of recovering a bad shot with a bigger cutting diameter.

Randy,
I found the frustration of the little screws of the hammerheads was not worth the frustration.

I am agreeing with this, I have been using Rocket Steelheads, they are great and will put a hurtin on anything, but after watching the Muddster inflict some serious damage with the Hammerheads I am sold!!!

As far as your question, I would prbably shoot the 3 blade Rage, just my personal preference and I think the cutting diameter is 1 1/2" on them isn't it (not a 1/2")

I'd probably go with the 2 inch rage heads, but they're friggin expensive. If they made the packaging a little less flashy looking they could knock $10 off 'em.

The little screws on the Hammerheads are a little annoying. Since I have glasses I have a few of those really little screwdrivers that have magnetic heads, ain't a huge deal, just takes patience and time.

jkratx,
yeah 1 1/2 haha my bad. I might as well shoot fieldpoints if that was the case.

If I remember from a previous thread the two blade was shooting better than the three blade. I think both look like they do some major damage.

After Muddy's devastation with the Hammerheads and 2 lost birds with my 1 1/8th cut fixed broadhead, I bought some Hammerheads and well I guess we will see what happens.

I was also told the Aftershocks was a good way to go but Scheels only had the Hammerheads.

If the Hammerheads don't work out for you then you know who to unload them on at least.

I tried the Jackhammers for the fist time this year and all i can say is WoW! I am real impressed with the way they fly and the damage they do! I haven't got the courage yet to use them for deer. Maybe i'll try one on a doe this year!

Well a 1/2" cut sounds a little small..

I haven't shot the Rages yet but I shot Rocky Mountain Snypers 2 blades, nearly identical broadheads, for 4 years before I switched. I shot a buck and doe with them and they were awesome! Both had excellent penetration and I would recomend them to anyone!
