building tower blind

Just looking for some advice, I am getting ready to build a tower blind but am trying to decide on the dimensions. I want it to accomadate one archer or two gun hunters. Those of you that have tower blinds would 6ft x6 ft be big enough, or should it be bigger? Any other tips you guys have for building a blind are welcome.

Also my ground blind crapped out on me this turkey season so anyone who has a used blind they are looking to unload cheaply let me know. thanks

I have no insight outside a Double bull blind inside dimensions are 5X5 and there is plenty of room for three people in the blind. I would say 6x6 is more than enough.

We have built several elevated blinds. 6x6 is an ideal size. Also there is absolutely no reason for the floor to be more than 7 feet off the ground as far as the deer are concerned. We have shot several 5&6 yr old deer out of the blinds the first year we hunted them. We frame them up like a small house and use 24x24 single slide windows from menards or home depot.
They used to have double slide but don't now. For the outside we use the 4x8 sheets of cement siding. I think they are on sale now for 18.99 after $4 rebate. THe siding keeps the tree rats from chewing on the blind.

Rut Nut makes a good point here. We have had SCF* issues with our homemade, wood siding based blind. I think the siding he recommended would be a good choice. Also, your design should "shed water", try to avoid places were water can pond up like on window sills, etc.

We also slanted our roof and then shingled it, along with aluminum drip edge. This keeps things nice and dry and will preserve the blind for many more years.

*SCF = Squirrel Chewage Factor

Thanks guys, i didn't even think of using cement board. Thats a great idea. I think i am going to have to be at least 8 feet high so i can see over a small hill that the deer like to congregate behind.

Do you guys tint the windows or just put some black faberic over them?

Thanks again for the great info.

We had tint on ours but took it off, just went with black fabric. Tint got hard to see out of...

Also make sure to have plenty big windows for shooting a bow out of. They make for some fun hunts and great for kids!

Stand Cost

How much $ are these stands typically running for you guys to build? If you had to buy all the materials.

thanks

Also, for your windows you either want a system where the windows are open to see/shoot OR use double paned windows. Single pane windows will fog up something fierce if you are inside the blind on a cold day.
