Burning out a stand

First post to the site but a long time reader.

I have been out about four times this season. First two time saw lots of deer in late Oct early November. I spent 12 hours on stand last weekend and only saw one buck...too far away and a small doe.

I have been playing the wind and practicing scent control. I usually hunt travel routes.

I am suprised by lack of such action. It also has been very windy the four times I have been out with gusts to 30 miles per hour. Could I burn out a stand by sitting in it twice?

THanks

I have the same circumstances, and the same question. Saw plenty of deer earlier, careful about scent, and now not seeing hardly any deer. I have always believed that your scent could still build up on a stand no matter how careful you are, but how much you can hunt one I don't know. I have 5 stand I divide my time by, depending on the wind. I will be curious about the comments.

Well I was off work from the 04th-16th, and I hunt the wind, this year you could see younger deer everywhere trying to chase, and then everything seemed to stop. I sat in rain three days, snow one, high winds more than I care to remember. Seen my first mature deer on the 12th at 7:00 am, nothing the rest of the morning, at 1:00 Shot my biggest to date. Same stand my dad shot one out of on the 08thm and my buddie same stand mature buck on the 15th. I'm seeing more bucks locking up with does all over so hang in there, and get the next one out looking for a new date.

I here you about the wind and rain. I haven't got a chance to hunt yet with the wind below 20mph.

I also hunt 4 stands and use a climber.

Sent pools ,tracks have scent. I think if a stand is used too much deer especially older bucks avoid the area . If you move just a 1/4 mile your luck could change /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I agree and not only that, but if you're hunting an area that's going to get any pressure during the first two gun seasons I wouldn't worry at this point about burning it out. These deer are gonna go nocturnal again just as they do every year. Hunt them now while you still can.

Good luck and we'll look forward to the harvest photos! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif
