Busting the flock

AIRASSAULT

I've heard this works real well when the turkeys are flocked up on the ground, but, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried it while it's still dark and the turkeys are roosted. Do you think they will scatter enough from the roost to separate areas, or, will the tom's fly out and land with the hens again? Thought maybe if one could spread them out far enough in the dark and setup somewhat equidistant to the different directions the turkeys flew, maybe you would have a good chance of getting a tom by himself and not hen'd up first thing in the morning. What are your thoughts?

I know this is used in the fall.

Never done it myself, I would rather have the turks not knowing I'm there.

Ive never personally tried it but I have busted many birds this way. From what I seen it seems to actually shut the gobblers up. It seems like they never gobble right away after you kick them off the roost. This would be in the morning.

Now if you go in there just after dark maybe it would work then. I have seen birds also fly a long ways when kicked up in the morning and I don't even think I could get back on them. Usually though I am hunting high river bottom bluffs and once they pitch off of them they can go a good half mile if they want to.

This seems to work really well in the fall. I've busted birds off the roost in the mornings before and like LIV said they are usually silent for awhile then. That and who knows how far they will fly. I wouldn't recommend it.
