Deer Hunters Encouraged to Buy License Soon
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources expects to sell up to 40,000 additional resident licenses for the first shotgun deer hunting season that opens Dec. 4. With only a few days remaining until opening day, hunters who have not yet purchased a license are encouraged to do so sooner, rather than later.
"There is no quota for resident any deer licenses, but hunters can avoid lines or other last minute delays if they purchase their license soon," said Dale Garner, chief of the DNR's Wildlife Bureau.
As of Tuesday morning, more than 25,000 any deer licenses have been sold for the first shotgun season. Iowa averages between 60,000 and 70,000 participants who hunt during the first shotgun season.
Licenses are available online at www.iowadnr.gov or at more than 900 locations across the state. Locations for the license vendors can be found by clicking on the Licenses link in the navigation column on the left, then clicking on Where to Buy a License on the following page. Vendors are listed alphabetically by county.
