Buying Crops

I have a spot in a river bottom that the farmer plants about 3-4 acres of beans that dont do real great (30-40 bushel per acre). I would like to purchase some of the beans from him to leave til late season but dont know what a fair price is. Any help would be appreciated

40 bushel to the acre might be stretching it this year, especially if it's sandy river bottom.

But then again, don't insult him by lowballing.

Do you charge him rent? Maybe work something out that way?
With today's prices, it is tough to justify even an acre...hopefully you are getting some $$$ off the tillable

I leave 10 acres or so of corn, standing every year, that I buy back, from the farmer that cash rents my farm. It costs a heck of alot more than it did 10 years ago for sure. I guess I need to be raising my cash rent. It is much cheaper to go with the dbltree mixes, and will do alot more for you in the long run.

I would just ask him if he is interested and what he would like. If you buy it from him he does not have to pic it or haul it to the grain company either. So that is a little saving in his end also. Fuel to pic, time to pic, and hauling expense.
