C.R. Gazette article

Anyone read the "in city" deer hunting article in the Gazette today? I haven't read it yet, but it sounds like some poor hunter had his tires flattened and vehicle trashed because he was shooting does.

Saw that Jamie... bad deal. Ya just got to wonder what is wrong with some people.

The best part of the article was when it mentioned the "deer task force committee" thought bowhunters would take a total of 100 antlerless deer the whole season and the total is at 93 right now...

I had a woman at the park about a week ago trying to sabotage my hunt for about 20 minutes. As I was sitting in my stand watching her through the tree's I realized how dumb of me it was to park my truck where I did with my IW.com and Matthews sticker on the back window. I really thought I'd find my truck scratched up or find one of my tires flat. From now on I'll have to take does out in the 87 Escort Wagon.

Tuesday's edition of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Iowa Today section. Bowhunter Bert Carmer, who has been an extremely active proponent of the city hunt process was the target of anti-hunt “terrorist”. He was featured in the initial October 1st article with a picture of him sitting in his ladder stand with a house in the background. The article is only about 10 paragraphs long, but had some great quotes from Carmer; "I was a specific target, this is some lowly, cowardly terrorist who sneaks around at night." He continued, "This only stiffens my resolve, every deer that we take off the street is an accident that doesn't happen. These people think more of deer than do of motorists or property." According to the article Carmer vowed not to be intimidated. He intended to take only five does in order to qualify him for a buck tag for use in the city next year, now he said he’ll take ten does!

As of Monday, Cedar Rapids Bowhunters have taken 93 deer in just over two weeks since the urban deer hunt started. The initial goal of the task force was to thin 100 deer from the estimated deer heard of 2400. The expectation now is for more than 200 to be thinned from the herd!

Looks like all that "terrorist" did was add more fuel to the fire for the city bowhunter. I hope he does kill 10 does now, they need thinned out.

carry your cell phone in the stand. if you see someone intentionally trying to interfere with your hunt, call the DNR. that is a crime.

I was sabatoged by some of these goof balls while hunting in a public area north of Milwaukee one year. These people would walk thru the woods in bright cloths yelling and hollaring, while walking dogs. One time just after leaving the area, I raised the hood of my truck and they had stuffed a big tied up roll of hay/grass between the firewall and the engine block. It was as hot and dry as it could be without lighting up. I tried to catch them jacking with stuff after that but never did. I then just quit hunting the public ground.

I didn't know that intentionally interfering with a hunt was a crime. I guess I learn something new every day. What could the punishment actually be?

Absolutely, burn a few of them on it and maybe they'll get the message.

This act by a "terrorist" is really the stupidest thing I have heard today. How often do you hear about a hunter who flattens tires at a PETA meeting? None because I firmly believe that as a whole, hunters are ethical people with morals, values and tend to make good judgement. It just makes them look bad from a public perspective and gives there group a bad name when they do idiotic malitious acts such as these (which I don't mind). However, as bad as it sounds I don't want these acts to discontinue because people might actually take these anti-hunting group of people seriously if it weren't so full of mis-informed people with a bunch of screws loose.
