A Few Steps Ahead Of You
I am a professed call guru, i have way more than i need, and my wife would like it if i never bought another call..... but....
i cant help myself.
so i started making some of my own calls. i made a few box calls, but i wont bother showing them to you as they SUCK!
I build mouth calls also.
but im a real sucker for custom friction calls.
i have not bought any real nice ones yet, i do however, have a few picked out after visiting the NWTF National Convention the past two years...... they are expensive....
Any how, here are a few pix of some calls i have built or am about to finish up.
i want to see pictures of the custom calls you guys have or make!!!!
This is one of my favorites, but it doesnt work anymore as the wood cracked. I spun it myself and it is made out of Purple Heart. i didnt finish the inside and i assume as the wood dried it split, thus ruining it's ability produce a quality sound.....
so it got retired after being the last thing several birds heard....

This pic shows the small crack. its amazing how important the structural integrity is to the sound...... it sounds horrible now..... but it still looks good.....
Here is a neat one,
a cocoanut shell.
it doesnt sound all that great, but it has killed a bird! it works, but is more interesting to look at!
Here is a homemade Wing bone call that was made my my turkey hunting mentor! he is a grand daddy longbeard himself!
a dear friend and this is a treasured gift.
A 'Cork' Batty original!
The Cross Gobbler!
A quality call that i just dont feel right about taking to the woods! it sure sings!!!
oddly enough, it looks like the date says 2008, but rather it says 2003 /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Here are a couple in Process.
I should have them together by the end of the week.
the walnut pot is a repilica of the pots you can buy from Shipley's Custom Sawing, the other is another Purple Heart, my own design..... i actually dont know what they will look like exactly till im done with it on the Lathe.
hopefully they both turn out.....
Walnut Pot
Purple Heart Pot
Couple more coats and they will be ready.....
the purple heart pot also has a crack in it..... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif but i hope to seal it up inside and out with lots of Polyurethaine (sp) hopefully that helps it..... i dont know....
I wanna see your calls!!!!
