Camera

I am going to buy a new camera, just to pack with me in the woods and shed hunting. I have a Kodak cam, very nice camera, but I dropped it and messed up the settings button. Basically, it will cost as much as a new camera to fix it. So what are some sugestions from you guys? Budget will be around 300.00, so what is a good camera for that price. I really don't know much about camera's, so if you don't mind, give me the ups, and downs of each camera.

The one I am looking at is a Sony CybershotDSC T200/B 8.1 MP.

Go with a Canon
IMO they are the best camera producing company out there....
I have used many differnt brands and like them the best

Monday, I got a Samsung S730 as a present. From what little playing around I have done with it, I'm impressed. My son took a picture of me while I was throwing the bow off a package and it froze the bow in flight. It is 7.2 megapixels so pics will need serious downsizing before posting to IowaWhitetail. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif It is small and slim, too, would fit nicely in a pocket

Since it was a gift, I quick looked on line to see pricing info. It looks like it should be just over a hundred dollars. Not so bad when, like you, I dropped and ruined my last digital camera.

The only bad experience so far is the manual. It is completely useless short of telling you how to put batteries in. There is a CD, but you install their program. I DON'T want to install any more software on my computer! Just give me a read-only disc. I did find a pdf manual for a Samsung S700 on-line and it looks to be close enough to answer my questions.

I use the Sony 7.2 cyber shot! The wife and I both have them and I love mine. Tough little camera and seems to take great pictures. Anymore I think they are all probably pretty good!

Tha4, does cannon make one that is small? I am looking for something that will fit into my pocket. My mom is a photographer, and she uses cannon camera's, but they are big, bulky camera's, don't want to lug one of those around the woods with me.

Randy, I like the camera you posted. It has more options than I will ever use, but its about what I am looking for.

Nanny,
Canon makes a GaZillion differnt cameras! If you choose to go that route you will be able to find somthing that fits your needs. however, in today's day and age, the amount of money you spend is more important that the brand......
spend as much as you can afford and you will have a nice peice of equipment!!

i just choose Canon because they only really make cameras and similiar stuff, so i feel their expertise is more valid....again, just my opinion. their customer service is top notch as well.

Good Luck!!

This is what I ended up getting last fall. I believe a few others on here might use the same. Not the smallest camera out there but I think you would really appreciate the zoom.

Sony Cybershot H-5

This is a great camera for the price!

Yep the Sony Cybershot H-5 is the one I bought as well and love it. The flash is a little hot but I have learned to deal with it.

Ok folks, find me a new Sony Cybershot H5 for under $300 and even I might "dust off my moldy money".

JNR,

Thanks, Guys! I can always trust you to spend my money. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I've got the Sony 8.1 MP and love it. Granted, it is my first camera and have had it less than a year, but it has some amazing clarity. The zoom isn't that great, but if you get the focus you can zoom in later and the picture is still clear as a bell.

Nice and small makes for easy carrying as well.

JNR,
Limb and I don't want all that money to get moldy on ya. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

When I was researching cameras, Canon had the best quality lenses on the market; but I think Sony has closed the gap in the last couple years. I own a Canon and wouldn't own anything different, just because of the great experience I've had with them. They do make very small cameras and if you want a little more zoom (like me) I opted for a little larger one.

Like I said earlier, Sony has closed the gap but Canon is known for making cameras and that they do well. IMO Sony makes the better big screen TV's, one that is in my man-cave!!

The Powershot series would be excellent for you...check them out.

Canon Powershot ELPH 8.0 MP This one is the "slim" version I believe for around the price range stated...

How much is an increase from 6.1 to 8.0 megapixels worth? Is good lens more important? I have seen some wonderful pics in the 6 MP range and wonder if the extra is needed.
