The Hunt Never Ends....
Hey guys, I'm finally back to college with my computer and scanner, so i'll post some of my pics from this summer. This buck here is very strange, and i've got around 8 pictures of him. The "tumors" are on both sides of his face just so you know. Well, I was just wondering if anyone knew what they were, what they were caused from, and if they will be fatal.

I think I have seen similar images and the tumors were caused by a virus.

Happy B-Day, by the way!!

Those are cutaneous fibromas growing on that buck. Fibromas are caused by a virus and they are rarely fatal unless they occur near the eyes and block the deer's vision or near/around the mouth where they could interfere with eating or breathing. The tumors are usually temporary and deer with these tumors are still edible. The virus is thought to be transmitted from one deer to another by biting insects.

I think I read something about this one time. It seems that it is a virus that infects deer. They get those boils, antler detereration, they loose there sight, etc. I'm pretty sure it will kill em. Not sure about it spreading or not though. If you do some research there are alot of crazy things deer get that you hardly hear of.
