Has anyone out there heard anything about the IDNR not allowing carcasses brought back from Iowans hunting in Western States? I read a little about it in the Register, but it didn't go into much detail.

I thought I read where you can bring in the meat and the cape and antlers only. The antlers can be attached to the skull plate as long as all brain matter is removed. I'm not sure where I read it though. Maggs.

that may be a good thing to know seeing i'm going elk hunting in colorado

I believe that I read the same article Maggs, Basically stating that we have to bone out our meat and skull plates only. I know that for my group this is going to be a big pain. We have always waited to process until we got back.

I am not an expert on the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease, but I do know that the percentage of transfer in wild herds of mule deer and elk, is exponentially less than the percentage of transfer in captive herds. The publicized percentage of infection for the units that we hunt in Colorado is less than 5 percent in both Mule Deer and Elk.

Sorry to go off on a rant...if anyone has anymore information please let me know.

So how will you deal with the possibility of eating meat from an infected animal? Have you been hunting these areas very long and have you continued to eat meat from animals in these areas? I'm just kind of at a loss for what to do. I'll never give up my opportunity to elk hunt this Fall but I'd hate to become a test case for the transfer of the disease to humans! Maggs.

so far CWD has not been found in our unit or for that matter anywhere close most is in the nw part of colorado we hunt the sw corner
