There is no use being in a stand today. I would be astonished if the deer even move at all in weather like this.

While I think the decision not to get in a tree with winds this high is a sound one, back in my younger days before I thought much about safety I remember multiple hunts in high winds and the deer moved just fine. It can suppress movement, but definitely not always.

I decided not to hunt so figured I'd better catch up on my chores. Once a week, I go through the orchard and pick up windfalls. Today, I quit in frustration after picking up 40 five gallon buckets full! They were dropping so fast in this wind I couldn't keep up. I made one sweep through the orchard and quit. I'll get the rest next weekend.

It was windy as heck but i went out anyways because i can only hunt weekends because of work. Did some ground hunting. Snuck up on what i thought was a doe. Took close to 2 hours. Got within shooting range......spike buck. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif Should of watched football.

They were movin plenty... Not as good as the honkers and mallards but they were movin. Not the right one but I was surprised.

i had a good buddy call me and he killed a nice buck today...
i too was surprised....

maybe i should have gone.....

Tonight was my first night out with the bow, I couldn't resist the snow falling and the frigid winds. It was awesome!! I went to a small piece of public and had 4 does and a 120 incher walk by about 45 minutes before dark.

I was in the stand for about 2 hours this morning. Felt like I was in a boat on a big lake. Walked a creek & saw 2 does eating grass about 10 yds away. They had no clue I was there, would've been an easy shot. I know these 2 does are twins & they are very small.....& still alive /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

I figured today would be a good one to get caught up on fall chores before the "Prime Time" is upon us to. At 8:00 this morning my hay rack was empty. By 4:30 this afternoon it was full of split oak for the wood burner. I had to wear ATV goggles to keep the dust out of my eyes and I doubt if I'll be able to pull my bow back tomorrow but dang it I can mark that job off my list! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/tired.gif

First time ever I wished I was in the bin shovelin corn instead of eating the dust from the grinder/mixer. Not that I coulda shoveled anyway. It was my job to hold the outside auger in place. Couldn't get away from the dust. I looked like a snow man by the time we were done. Still coughin up corn dust.
