Cedar Rapids Area Hunting Question

Hi All,
I have a question on Hunting in the Cedar Rapids area but 1st wanted to say that you all have a wonderful site and since I have been visiting as a guest I have been able to gain a wealth of knowledge. My question is to those of you familiar with the Cedar Rapids area since I am new to the area and hunting ground. I have attempted a few mornings at Hawkeye Wildlife Area and the Public land around Palo but with no luck. I was wondering if any could give me suggestions on any other good spots or hot spots at these places. I would like to get out few more times before the season is over and would appreciate any help.
Thanks In Advance

Travis,
The public hunting areas around C.R. aren't really all that great. They see quite a bit of pressure from C.R. itself as well as the surrouding areas. You're best bet would be to hit the gravel roads and start knocking on some farmers doors. Not really the greatest time of year to do as most of them are out in the field, but I think you'll be surprised how many of them will allow you to turkey hunt their ground. It's also a great way to try and line some fall ground up for deer hunting. As far as the area goes, spin the Twister board and head in that direction......anywhere around C.R. will be good as long as it's got some timber and crop-ground. Good luck.

I would agree...although I will say that just south of Cedar Rapids near Solon (just south along the reservoir area) is some great ground with a lot of birds on it. And most of it is public I believe. I've heard many gobbles across the public land when I've been hunting on private land nearby.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the help guys, I will be headed back to Albia, my hometown, this weekend to see if I can stick one but until then will be looking for some farmers willing to let me hunt. I appreciate the help
