Cedar Rapids Hunting???

Opinions Flare at Bow Hunt Forum

A public forum aimed at ways to control the deer population turned into a very opinionated debate in Cedar Rapids. Most everyone agrees the deer population needs to be controlled but few agree on how to do it.

At the meeting Travis Kasner favors the bow hunt saying, "The hunt so far has been successful in laying foundation for heard reduction and will continue to progress if you authorize it's continuation."

Laurie Stone opposes the hunt saying, "If the city would consider signs and no passing zones and lower speed limits that would reduce a lot of accidents."

The city of Cedar Rapids has allowed a controlled bow hunt for the last two years, to limit the deer population.

With some shooting for another season and others aiming to eliminate the program, the city wants feedback.

It even set-up a bow hunting comment section on the city's website. Over the last two weeks more than 200 comments have been posted. This forum gave people a chance to verbalize those comments.

Each presentation was limited to five minutes per person, and each one was very opinionated.
M.E. Reich said at the meeting, "Had my husband and I knew that five months out of the year someone could be bow hunting next door we would have never ever, ever, ever moved here."
Bert Carmer said, "Bottom line it's a public safety issue. Every deer taken by a bow hunter is a potential car or motorcycle deer collision that did not happen."

The council plans on reviewing both the website and forum comments, before setting their sights on a decision later this month.
As of right now the controversial deer season is set to begin September 15th.

This was on the KWWL website. I dont live in CR but i still think that you guys should be able to hunt to control the population. I'd be letting the city council hear your mind. Not sure the website but i know that on the Cedar Rapids website there is a link. (this has been posted before, just an update you could say). Like the last post said let the city know what you think about the situation. If someone could post their website link again maybe that would help out. Thanks..
