While out hunting I noticed 3 deer out in a feild a good 500 yards away. I new 1 was a doe with a fawn and the other deer I wasnt sure about. I started watching these deer and noticed that it seemed like the doe was getting pushed around by the other deer, I thought that it was buck behind her pushing her around. she actually took off running and the other deer i assumed was a buck was right behind her running.

I wasnt sure if maybe this was another doe and they where just kind of playing around. I figured it was to early to be seeing activity like this with bucks but I dont know now. Anyone else seen anything like this?

The second you see velvet peel off, you'll see this kind of stuff. It's by far usually from younger/dumber deer. The hormones escalate like a teenager from the velvet peeling to peak rut and all the way until horns drop (think of a bell-curve). You'll see chasing and fighting in JANUARY. Like NOW, it's not super serious and it's just the habits, instincts and hormones of a creature that needs to breed & has an instinct to chase & breed even when it isn't the right time. The ball game really starts though when the does are getting close to estrous and the younger does hit estrous later- why it's called "PEAK RUT".

I had a doe come down the hill with her fawn button buck. Next thing I know I heard a grunt and a roar. Next thing you know he chased the button buck off and then chased the doe around for awhile. I don't think the rut is on but the bucks are trying to start. the cold snap that is coming will definitely help.
