It looks to me as if the velvet is just beginning to start to peal off (look closely to the end of the left main beam). Cactus bucks stay in velvet year round and annually add more mass. I think this buck is not a cactus buck, but one that was shot early in the season before he lost his velvet.
If this is the Albia buck (which I don't believe it is), its physical characteristics have changed drastically. No matter what, this still is an awesome whitetail, one that I would gladly place my tag on.
