Check Stations

In a post below, I belive it was Blind Sow who said the State will set up check stations for hunters to VOLUNTARILY register their deer. This I can support. I'm sure there will be enough hunters who, like me, will glady have their deer "checked", that will provide a large enough sample to represent the total heard. I hate it when the government REQUIRES me do do anything.

I confess I don't know much about the check station procedure. My biggest fear is I kill a deer the night before I have to work and don't find it until way late. The last thing I want to do is drag it to a station that night to have it checked. Not that it matters, but I can be gone for 36 hours and I assume I'd need to have it check with in a few hours. In my real life experience I was visiting relatives in Wisconsin when their son harvested a nice 8 pointer. I helped drag it gut it ETC and it was 2130 when they took off for the check in station which was a bar in the middle of no where. If I can have my deer checked on my own time I most definitely will.

I guess because I grew up in Wisconsin Registering your deer is not that big of deal.
In fact I enjoy it.
Who doesnt like to show off a little bit.
And it isnt that unreasonable.
Gun hunting you have until 5 O'clock the day after the season closes to register the deer.
Bow hunting you have until 5 O'Clock THREE days after you shot it.
Who cant make these dead lines?
Its not like we live 100 miles from the station.
They are all over the place.

You need to reread my post on voluntary check stations and CWD. They will be set up for hunters to voluntarily bring in their deer to be checked for CWD only--they will not be check stations as found in "progressive" western states. (That little slam is directed towards our legislators-not the DNR)
