City Bucks

SCOFFIN

Miles Coffin
Thought I'd share my sighting yesterday by the Des Moines River bike path just East of MLK and south of Douglass. I was out riding around 6:30 and seen 3 deer wandering through the grass. Stopped to check em out and to my amazement they were all bucks. A basket 6 a small 8 and a DANDY 12 with a dropper on the left side. Right now the G2's were in the 7-8 inch range and the dropper was around 4-5 inches. They tollorated me for about a minute and took off. I bet that sucker never leaves the city limits. It's going to be a great deer this fall. I'm taking a camera on my next trip and will post a pic if I run across him again. Got me kinda excited to get the tree stand out and go check out my spots to see what all is running around.

I use to see two HUGE bucks down on the SE side of Des Moines. There was a huge one hanging out daily last fall in that field on the corner of SE14th st. and Hartford. Plus Christmas Eve I just about hit an even BIGGER one about a block and a half East of that Hy Vee on SE14th street. It was just running through someones yard! It didn't even phase my mother in law that was with me and I was physiclay shaken at the size. I think she thought I was NUTS! I mentioned it to a hunting guy at work and he told me, "Yeah that's a "City Buck" that's the first time I have ever heard it refered to that. Like he said it will never leave city limits and will probably just get bigger. Boy if you get pics the one you saw would be awsome to see!

Hey leave my deer alone....i live just down the street from where you spotted the deer by hy vee, watch them every nite during rut, they hold up in the woods to the south then in the evening they head for the river to the north, have seen as many as 12 there at once, new house on north side of road doesn't seem to be bothering them

Thats where I saw the really huge one on Christmas. It was running next to that new house! If you live down this direction we must live pretty close to each other. I live about 5 blocks farther east and a couple blocks south of there. It is really fun/scary going to work in November cuz I purposely go down Hartford to look for deer. There are so many deer along the river there I just hope I don't end up with one in my lap sometime! For about 2 or 3 days on a row that one big buck would hang out in that hayfield mornings along Hartford and SE 14th street. It's nice when it's durring the rut and there was

a doe out there with him cuz he didn't give a crap if I was sitting there watching him from the road.

the area is full of deer and some really good quality bucks, i live just east of there and south on 22nd between 22nd and 23rd, have had does in my front yard during rut, hartford to the east towards Easter Lake another good spot to watch 'em

Too bad it is such a far drive from KC:):):)

By the way, I know I have posted them before, but here is the picture of those nice big sheds I found this year, also a city buck!!!! Lives real close to a Wal-Mart, Lowes, HyVee etc..... I found his sheds about 30 yards from a major road.... If you look closely, the one on the right had a large drop tine broken off!!!!! I saw him 12 hours before he dropped them - STILL PACKING!!!! The right side has a 14" G2!!!

My daughter and I were walking in the woods north of our house about 6 weeks ago. She found a really nice shed. I've only found 3 or4 dinky ones ever and she had to score on a nice one for her first one! (Petrblt)-We live on Caulder Ct. right off of 23rd St. and we found the shed in the woods north of our house. It was the right side and it was huge but it wasn't either one of the big ones I saw last fall close to here. It has a lot of mass. We wrnt back out the next night to try to find the other side. After looking for a couple hours we found a homless persons shack. It freaked the hell out of me so I didn't poke around much after that!!!! I was really wanting to find the other half cuz the one we did find the last tine had to be at least 12" long and was pretty much horizonal going back to the left. I was really wanting to find the left side cuz I would almost swear if the left side was as long and went back to the right they would almost of crissed cross. But like I said after finding the homeless shack we didn't poke around much afterwards!

Small world Deernut, if you look to the south from your house you should see Backup (my Rott) and Archie (blk/wht lab/boxer),in my back yard, your street is just north of my house, got permission to put up cam on the property on south side of Park where the deer cross, got ok for Bait pile so hopefully, if i figure out what i'm doing, i'll get some photots of the City Bucks running there. Do you have dogs??
