Correct Fertlizer For Food Plots

Team Haastyle

This coming year I am going to fertilize both of my one acre food plots for the first time. I had great success in both plots without fertilizing in both of their first year of growth. However, I want to put nutrients back into the soil as well as get a better crop of plants in each of them. What fertilizer combination should I use on both of these plots. One plot is in an existing field and the other is more in a wetland area. Thanks

Your not going to find a food plotter thats not going to tell you to get a soil test done before you spend a dollar on fert. When you do a soil test it will ask you what your going to plant then suggest how much lime and N.P.K.

Depending what crop depends what fertilizer you should put back in.

If it's 2 acres total, you COULD just be lazy & throw down P&K for sure & N depending one what's planted there. I would get the PH tested and throw down Pelletized lime as needed though- that's pry more important. With only 2 acres, if you throw down too much P&K- oh well. Heck, same with N. Worst case, in reality, is you'll waste a little $. The reason it's not as big of deal- it's only 2 acres. Now, a 20 acre plot, sure, big difference. Correct answer is absolutely to soil test it BUT if u did take the lazy approach, get a nice load of fert on it BUT I for sure would PH test it, which I suppose, at that point, maybe just do it right after all. If u were going down the lazy route, let me know what's planted there or what you want planted - that will determine your N requirement which is biggest variable. Pry best to take time, get soil tested, load up on P&K most likely, correct PH and add N based on what's planted.
