Well the deer hunting has been slow for me this year. Haven't seen anything over 140 yet but finally managed to shoot something. At 1pm today I was messing around with a new grunt call and I was trying out the fawn bleat. I was leaving at 1:30 so I hit it a few times trying to sound like the can but just couldn't get it to sound right. About the 5th time I hit it this yote came flying up on the ridge looking my way. I have never killed a coyote with my bow although I have shot at many. It seems they never sit still.
Anyways he looked behind him and I grabbed my bow and got ready. He started to trot my way and I drew back when he was approximately 50yds away. In the past I always got busted when drawing. He came in to 10 yards and I went Maaa really light. He turned and stood behind my tree directly downwind. I knew the jig was about up so I put it at the base of his neck and let go. The arrow flew true and there was a huge puff of hair. I thought I just grazed him but blood was spraying everywhere when he ran off. I looked at my arrow and there wasn't a drop of blood on it. I followed the trail and quickly found him. I hit right at the base of the neck and zipped him wide open with a 1 3/4 jak hammer. First kill with them and so far impressed.
Well back to deer hunting. So far I have been more excited about the coyote than any deer I have seen while actually sitting in the tree. :drink2:
