Hello, I would like to see what people think about different cross bows. I recently joined army and then down the rode I had a few surgery's that keep me from shooting my bow anymore. It really sucks, one of my doc's said i should look into cross bows and the laws in Iowa. Well I have been looking and I have not found much good information about them. I would like to know more about types, broad heads, and if anyone is trying to sell one used so I can try to hunt this year on leave. Any advice or comment is welcome.

My dad bought one a few years ago thinking he might get into it, he shot maybe 10 times been sitting since.
I can ask if he wants to sell, send me a PM if interested.

Picking a crossbow is much like picking a regular bow, ya have to go with what feels best to you and what fits your budget. I bought a Ten Point several years so and don’t have any major complaints (except that I have to use a crossbow). The feature I like about the Ten Point (I can’t even remember which model I bought) is the double safety. I have to push a button on the fore stock as well as have the safety on the trigger released before it will shoot. That way I can get in the stand, release the very loud safety then when it comes time to shoot just push the button. I also like the cocking mechanism.

Just for fun, if I had the funds, I’d by one of the PSE “uppers” that would fit on my AR15 lower. I held one once and they seemed very very front heavy.

There is also a rule with crossbows that you must use a three bladed broad head, two bladed are illegal. It was in the rules a few years ago when I got my permit and may have changed. I didn’t understand why that rule was there but it was and I use NAP Spitfire with the razor tip.

Thank you good point. I have been looking at Horton cross bows they make a really quiet one (most I found I really loud, much louder then my Hoyt) any one use or have any experience with it? I also would like to say I rather be using my Hoyt and not be looking at cross bows, this is better then not hunting though.

Crossbows are crazy loud. A hunter sitting almost a quater mile away heard mine go off. There have been several improvements to quiet them down but I bet they are all still very loud.

Using a crossbow is better than not hunting but recently I've been thinking about hunting with a camera. Problem is I can't eat an SD card. They kinda burn on the grill and get soggy in the crock pot.

I have a Barnett predator. It is very front heavy and very loud but man is it fast.

I think the PSE vision would be the most balanced or maybe a ten point recurve.

Never heard bout the the two blade deal but I haven't needed to hunt with it yet.
