Crp

sep0667

Land of the Whitetail
I have access to an entire section this fall execpt for just 120 acres of it. Those 120 are cow pasture. The remainder, that I can hunt, is all entirely crp. It has two ponds on it and several fingers that run through the low areas of it. the fingers are only probably 30 yards wide and one has a small creek running through it (dried up now). I scouted it out last weekend and bumped several deer in it. The surrondering properties are a mix of timber/pasture, not a lot of corn/soybeans in the area. I've never hunted an area that is mainly crp. Any suggestions on how to hunt it? I found one spot that I'll put a stan in but what should I expect hunting mainly crp com November? I'm hoping to catch a buck checking for does going up and down the fingers.

I would concentrate on the water sources and any of the fingers or finger that funnels to the biggest section of woods... also, note where you jumped the does ,because, the big boys will be doing the same thing starting the last wk of October. Are there any random lone trees that stick out like a sore thumb in the middle of the crp big enough to get a stand in?... seems like deer use them as check points

I've brushed in a blind in a similar situation. Helps if you know where they cross the fence or main travel route.

I'd find a good tree in one of those fingers to hang in, preferrably close to either of those ponds. Sounds like a good spot. Deer love CRP.

Sounds good. One of the spots where I know I will hang a stand is close along the small creek where the timber is a little bigger and it is along on of the fence rows. That spot I'm really looking forward too. Theres a few ranom trees here and there but that just seems really odd to sit in the middle of the crp in a tree, really seems like a shot in the dark. The crp isn't all that tall, maybe knee high at most. It is mowed a couple times a year it looks like and with how dry it was a lot of it didn't seem to grow much. How do I post a pic off google maps? That will help to show it.
