Cloaca,
I made a couple of wingbone calls last year and I've got a couple of questions about yours. What type of pen are you using to write on the bone? And then what type of protectant are you putting on them?
When I did mine, I used a fine line Sharpie and then sprayed some clear enamel over it and it caused the ink to run. So I ended up not putting anything on them at all.
Thanks.

I use a marker from Hobby Lobby that is made by Faber Castil. It says "artists pen" or something close. I have tried different combos of sealers and pens. I have found it best to take an extra piece of bone(s) and use trial and error to see what is going to work together and still look good.

For the protectant, I tried regular clear enamel. I am now using a product that custom rod builders use called "Flex Coat". It is easy to work with, but it is fairly expensive. The coating is very strong and makes the calls look sharp. The other problem with the coating is that it takes hours for it to set up so the calls need to be constantly rotating or the Flex Coat will sag. A low rpm motor (I rigged up a grill's routissere motor) is needed.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I have 2 more calls that I haven't posted yet and they are actually my favorite. Probably because they are the only two I have done for myself and kept!
