D.B. Matrix Owners

I'm thinking on buying a matrix and have heard the door is a pain to use! True or not?? Also are the lighter rods worth the extra cost??? Any other opinions good/bad would be appreciated!! Thanks!!
P.S> I have no doubts about D.B. quality as I have one of their early models and it's as good as the day I got it!!

I think the door is just fine to use and just as easy as other blinds I have used. Lighter rods I cant comment on beens I dont have those.
As far as if you are saving weight by carrying, I have heard the backpack that DB came out with to carry the blind is the shiznit for this blind and is quite pricey. I just use the shoulder strap that is supplied and it works out.
Some people also use a golf bag cart to tote the blind around.

The zipper door does suck. Doesn't really matter, I go in through the window opening of my matrix, there's more room and makes set up quicker not having to worry about getting that damn door zipped back up.

I'm on my second one. I bought the green one before they switched to predetor camo only. I took it back because it was to green. They moved the door in the newer one and its much easier to get into.

I Just bought mine this past summer I have not found the door to be that bad. I went with the lighter rods and the extra height. If you are a mobile hunter moving often I would pay the extra for the lighter rods. If you plan to set it up and brush it out and leave it it may not be as important. I do however like like the extra height in either case to be able to stand up and strech out and get the boys back in place. If you have ever sat on a 3 legged stool you know what I mean...

Thank's for the comments guy's! My current D.B. only has the 8 shooting ports, no side viewing windows etc.. If it wasn't for the constant rubbernecking to see out, I wouldn't worry about a new one!

They changed the door last year and it is much better than the original matrix zipper. the new one is vertical which is better. I would get the light weight rods. My 2 cents.

Happy new year!

I have a Matrix and a BS5. Doors work fine in both but i rarely use them and just lift it up and go under the blind. Here is an easy way to carry the DB. I got this strap at the IA deer classic and I use a $5.00 elastic motorcycle net to hold gear under instead of trying to shove the chairs and decoys or whatever in the blind bag. I prefer this horizontal way of carrying the blind in the dark going through the woods and trees instead of vertical on my back so that I can navigate trees with my 6'3" height.I use to use a military dufflebag on my back before I invented this. This sling has a loop on each end and is a rubberlike material that helps keep the sling on your shoulder. The strap that comes with the DB is a P.O.S IMO. NO comment on the lighter rods; I am sure that less weight is always a good thing.

Looks like a good setup! I know the new D.B. straps/bag setup is junk. Friend had one and cussed it, had it resewn, Still sucks! I will keep the bag off my old blind as it works great and is tuff. It also is camo! Why D.B. went to a commercial printed on the outside of their bags is beyond me. The old bags were 10x the quality of the new style, and at least the straps were sewn to the bag!!

Probably because they used to be made in America. With the invention of the Matrix they went with China to build their blinds. I damn near took mine back when I got it home and saw it was made in China. I contacted DB about it, and they said that they would be glad to build me one in America at a higher cost. I declined because I didn't want to go back to Des Moines and exchange it and I wanted it for turkey season. They assured me that the quality was just as good. It just irritates me to see so many of our products made in China. I thought the DB boys were good ole Americans making a great American product right here in America. I am sure they are great guys; just caught up with the almighty dollar and how to save it. I myself would gladly just pay a little more for stuff made right here.

then why didn't you? you could have exchanged it after season

I hear ya! The company I have worked for 26 years projected in 5 years 70 to 80 % of there product will be made in china. I work in the shipping end of it so will not feel it as soon as the production people. But it does not bid well for any of us. All about the money and not the quality!!

The best thing in the world for any double blind is the treestand backpack found on LL Beans website, I will try to post a link. I wouldn't leave home without it, you don't even know the blind is on your back for those long hikes in

Liv, that looks like a great idea. I started straping it to my Badlands pack and it works great as well. The golf cart is history.
