Well, I got the report from IL and although there were a bunch of toms on our farm (12-15 opening morning) the hunting was tough as the birds were call and decoy shy. However, several of our birds have a morning ritual where they fly down and dance around in our bottom field and basically act like some of the guys I know in Iowa City on a friday night, you know making a lot of noise trying to impress the ladies.
Well knowing the birds were shy of decoys and calling my dad and brother tried a new tactic, no coys no call just sit along the field edge in a heavily frequented spot on the second morning. After watching a big tom strut around the field and gobble his head off for over an hour he finally made the mistake and headed for their vacinity. Ended up dropping the hammer on him at 52yds. They didn't do an official weight on him, but this bird looks like a monster to me. Anyhow, thought I would share another pic.
