Dang Wind....

I think I could of won America's funniest videos Saturday morning. I get all set up out in the middle of this giant corn field and just enjoying the morning. It was the first morning hunt of the year. Been tough this year finding time with a newborn at home and then the wife had her gallbladder taken out.

Anyways about 8:30 the wind picked up quite a bit. The ground was pretty soggy. At 9 I was digging through my bag looking for something when all the sudden the wind caught my blind and away it went with all 12 stakes. I was in shock. The blind looked like a huge tumbleweed just rolling a long the corn field. So I take off running after it as fast as I could and no matter how fast I ran I could only get to about 10feet from it. It was as if time was standing still. Or maybe it is because I am fat and out of shape.

After about 200 yards I lost my breath. So I sat to take a breather and the blind stopped moving. Finally I thought and took off running again. Another 200 yards and now I am about dying. I stop again, it stops. I run again and just about pass out and finally the walls caved in and I caught it. What a morning!! I am still sore and need to lose weight wow. I would of done anything to have that on camera. I am sure it looked real sweet.

A little later on I see a bird walking this fence line that ran north to South. About 100 yards down it turned to the East. About 30 yards off that corner was a ditch. I thought if I could beat him to it I would have him. I didn't quite make it and watched him walking away. I then ran back to the truck grabbed the fan on a stick and thought what the heck. So now there I am belly crawling out in a sopping wet chisel plowed cornfield. I look through the fan and here he comes slowly. I keep going at him he keeps coming at me. When he hit about 80 yards and appeared to be coming I propped the stick up in the ground and got ready. Just then the wind caught the fan and turned it 90 degrees. Now there I was just sitting there like yep, a fat man hiding behind a little tail fan. It was over.

I ended up sitting on a powerline and shooting a jake in the last 10 minutes I could hunt. Better than nothing I guess. Hopefully I have all the kinks worked out if I get to go again. Congrats to all who have killed a bird this year!!

The only thing funnier than that story is if you had the video to go with it! :D Good going!

I called it quits Saturday morning when I caught the blind as it was taking off. I did not want to do what you did. :D Almost been there.....
