Darn nice weather. ..

Deer Nut

What a beautiful day in SE Iowa for sighting in my muzzleloader. But I can't because I had the old snip-snip and can barely walk! Frustrating! I just need a handful of fine tuning shots and I'm set. I hate wasting a nice day.

Nothing like sighting the ole muzz in with a bag of frozen peas on your crotch!! Man up Shep!! :)

Hahaha yes a name change may be in order! My procedure was wayyyy more involved than normal. Don't ask for details, you won't sleep at all tonight ;) I have good news though... i am sitting in the barn with my wife waiting for a deer to feed close enough through the cornfield for her to put an arrow in it! We tried a ground blind out on the fenceline but for some reason they always feed toward the barn. Wish her luck! She has scored with a muzzleloader from a treestand but not a bow from a barn yet.

Well holy crap we had a surprise tonight! She didn't get a shot, but we saw two studs right before dark. Never seen them before. One right at 150 and the other had to be 160! They were together. Yes, I said together. 100 yards away. Looked like they were tolerating each other but searching for does. Quite a surprise after seeing does, fawns and two year old bucks all the time. It was pretty frustrating for her though because I don't know if she will be able to hunt again before the guns start cracking. Pretty neat to see these guys cruising 250 yards from our house!

Oh one more thing... they both walked within ten yards of our normal blind set up. Figures :)

I had the same thing happen today, picked the wrong stand and watched a shooter under the other one.... Oh well, was a good day to be out with the nice temps and decent deer movement.

Last sunday evening I watched 26 deer feeding in a standing bean field. Ten of them bucks and there was only one scuffle between bucks. Only three of them were 3 year olds but they weren't the ones causing trouble. It was the teenagers. They pretty much left the does alone. There are two really big shooters in the area that didn't show up. I'm sure they had the last hot does locked up somewhere.
