Decoying...Whats wrong with this picture

Hey all,

I hunted my food plot yesterday night (11-1) and it has been loaded with deer all year. Anyways I figured it would be a good chance to test deer reaction to my decoy. My plot is long and narrow. About 200 yards long and 50 yards wide at the widest. I placed the decoy about 3/4way to the one end in the biggest part right in the center. I placed it so it could be seen from a small ridge on the east side of the plot. Hopeing rattling would bring out some 1.5 and 2.5 year olds I had been seeing was bust to say the least.

5:45 the first deer starts to the plot, see pic 1, where the red circle is, is where they entered. 30yards or so from the decoy. 2little bucks and 2 does all single file, nose to tail. Decoy is broadside and directly down wind from deer, so they shouldnt be able to smell anything.

First buck locks up and stares, decoy not moving. Stomps his feet and exits stage left slowly. 1st doe stares, blows and take all three with her. That was the only deer I saw all night. Quite a change from the last time I hunted it, when I saw 8 other bucks on it all under 8points.

Second of all, I wanted a half-aggressive posture hoping with the first part of the rut maybe something would be looking for a fight, atleast for some entertainment. But I didnt want to spook everything off right off the bat. When these deer came out the decoy was not moving one bit. Course as soon as they left the windblew and he danced a jig:( Is the head and or ears in the wrong position for what IM trying to accomplish? See pic 2.

PS Im 100% these deer have never seen a decoy before.

I think he is to aggressive with nothing close to be angry about. How close is he to your stand? Early season I personally have had better luck with a half rack and a bedded doe (or just a doe in the ready position).

His ears are to far foward. He would look like that if he was looking at a coyote trying to scare it off.Raise the ears and you will have better luck. The deer want to see the white in his ears to feel safe.
