Decoys

Do you feel some of todays turkey decoys are getting out of hand and taking away from the sport of hunting?

I'm mainly referring to the newer mechanical types like,Decoy Walker, that walks back and forth on a track. The Expedite, which mechanically drives the decoy into a feeding motion. And don't forget old Sexxy-legs,that's battery powered to scratch the ground, just to name a few.I never had a problem with the use of the traditional stake type decoys, but really think these mechanical types are getting out of hand.

With the majority of my turkey hunting being done with a shotgun,I very seldom,if ever use one.Mostly due to the hassle of using them and just to make it somewhat more of a challenge. As I realized you really don't need them to be successful while gunning. But bowhunting turkeys is another story,as I found out recently.I realized what an asset they are when it comes to bowhunting.Which I'll continue to use the traditional type,on the occasions I do bowhunt them.

So is it fair to say the traditional types are okay to use, whereas the newer mechanical types aren't?Not really sure, but just don't like the idea of mechanical decoys regardless of bowhunting or gunning, what's your opinion?

.......a little skill with a call and a feather flex blowin' in the wind is all a guy needs. I don't mind guys using anything that will work for them. I personally had the best luck just keeping it simple.

Just more gimmicks for the hunter who has everything. Did you see the tree stand at the deer clasic with threee rear view mirrors attached to it? I wonder how far they will fly when they get caught in a bow string?
It's only out of hand if we let it!

I very much equate these mechanical decoys to mechanical or recorded calling, which is and should be illegal for most hunting. I have never hunted ducks with them, but I understand that things like the Robo-Duck are so effective that they are being banned in lots of places. I can already see the next great inovation in deer hunting, Robo-Doe, that will walk, bleat, and pee with the push of a remote control button. Let's draw the line some where and make hunting hunting and not just gunning.

Good point bowmaker, that was my exact thought also, where does it end?Next we'll see a hen decoy on a remote 4 wheel base, you can guide to a gobbler on the other side of a field and entice him to follow it back.I agree any decoy that's mechanical or electronic should be illegal.
