Deer Hunter Injured Sunday in Boone County
DES MOINES - A Boone man was injured Sunday while hunting deer in Boone County.
John "Randy" Roberts, 27, was struck in the chest by a shotgun slug fired by Austin Mcbirnie, 19, of Boone, while hunting deer in a group of eight hunters on a public hunting area along the Des Moines River between Madrid and Luther. Mcbirnie was shooting at a running deer that ran between him and Roberts shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Roberts was air lifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he was being treated for what is believed to be a non-life threatening wound.
