Deer Mount Help

I shot a nice buck about 10 years ago. Muddy was actually there for the recovery. I am sure he remembers me dry heaving as I gutted the deer since I hit a little far back. Anyways he is hanging at my parents house and they noticed some little white bugs around the back end of the mount. Hair is falling off it like crazy and if you tug at any of the hair it comes right out. Any thoughts on how to correct the issue? I am sure its too late. I realize you get what you pay for and have learned since then.

What worries me is I have 2 other much higher quality mounts that are about 10feet away that I do not want this to happen to.

Man, I don't know if you can save it or not, but I'd get those two other mounts out of there ASAP!

I had this happen to a Mule deer mount of mine a few years back. What a taxidermist told me was that the person who mounted it did not get the flesh completely removed from the hide. Not sure if thats what you've got going on but the bugs destroyed my mulie.

I've never had to use it, but, check out Mount Saver at www.mountmedix.com. Back in .. the day, most hides were tanned with a product called Instapreserve and weren't fleshed properly if at all.. Anything left on a hide other than epidermis and hair/fur, we taxidermists call Bug Food.. Most hides nowadays are chemically treated during the tanning process to prevent bug infestation.. For an immediate kill of the bugs right now and may be easier to get your hands on sooner, get something with permethrin in it.. but for longer lasting effects, try that Mount Saver

Take and bag them all individually, then throw a bug bomb in each bag. Then bomb the house or hire someone, show them what they look like. But I am just quessing it is not good. Maybe beetles or moths. They will eat every mount.

Have a GOOD Taxi remount it for ya! Wont be the same cape, but it will honor the animal and your memories!! :way: I had my first bowkilled deer redone. He was shot in 1979! And there was one Taxi around! He did alright for 1979!! Compared to now.......Looked like a rat with antlers!!!! I had him redone a couple years ago and it was money well spent!!!!!!!:way::way::way:

The other mounts should ok if they were done right. I would remove the problem and just have it remounted with a different cape.
