Deer Mounts and poses

I have one deer mounted on the wall from when I was a teen-ager. He is a little backet racked 8 point (my first buck) and I went cheep on him. Had some guy do it out of his basement and it's O.K. for that little 8 point. But for the deer I shot this year I want a good mount and good pose. I was just watching Realtree Outdoors and Jeff Foxworthy shot this HOG in Kansas, Durring the whole show Im looking at this mount in the background thinking " Man, thats one of the best taxidermy jobs Ive ever seen and I want my buck to look just like that". Ive already picked the taxidermest, I think he the best in the area but here are some questions for everyone that has in-sight in taxidermy....
Is thier a pose thats better than the rest? I think Im going to do a full sneek turned to the left with the ears back. I also want a very muscular and defined mold, Is this something you can ask for or do they have to order a mold that fits your cape?
And does anyone have pictures of mounts they think are great taxidermy mounts? Ide liek to see some different poses.
Thanks Corey

With a full sneak mount you won't be able to achieve a lot of muscle definition, you may want to concider a semi-sneak. The pictures below aren't the best for showing the detail but there is a noticable difference in detail. It will not matter what form you get for your deer as long as the measurments are close to the actual deer.

i'm putting my buck from this year into a semi sneak pose. to mix it up the shoulders are offset so that there is more of the right shoulder showing and less of the left. this makes him appear to be coming out of the wall at an angle (which he actuall is) and then his head is cocked back to the right to show off the double beam. i REALLY like how this mount will look.

Thats web site was pretty cool MQ1z, Do you think thier is a big differance from a full sneak to a full sneak with off-set shoulder?

Cory first of to choose a good taxidermist can be a challenge for there are many outdoorsmen out there that will say joe blow is the best this they know for they are joe hunter if you know what I mean. First of all after choosing one that you think might be good ask what if any awards he has won. Any taxidermist that has wom blue ribbons first place in professional or better yet the masters divission at state or higher level probally is a talented taxidermist and knows quality and anotamy. if you want a deer that looks like he is on steriods you might not get that from a truley talented taxidermist for it is for the most part not anatomicly correct. instead look for good hair patterns ie. brisket ;fore head;ect good clean ear edges; good thin tight ears ;nice soft eyes in proper shape and attitude. nice fleshey nose pad with texture is there a sepyum in nose with nosteral depth. is there necetating membraine in front corners of eyes ;is there oil gland texture on lower eyelids ect there is a lot to ask and look for .as far as poses there are several my favorite is the powell by joe meder semi up as far as turn that depends on location where he is gunna hang you want him looking into focal part of room.I hope some of this helps any questions just ask ill try to help good luck .Jeff

My favorite form is the Full Upright offset from McKenzie. Great muscle definition and it shows real well.

Medics, you can see the difference between the two in Joe Meder Series, if you notice the full sneak offset is pretty similar to 4600 Series, both are more like neck strecthes out forward & the off set shoulder also in Joe Meders is more of neck stand up. Thats the big difference I think. My opinion, personally I like the 4600 & full sneak offset (much similar) the best. Also where to put it on the wall is another consideration for a pose & I'm sure you've already decided. Good luck with your choice & show us your mount when its done!

Just scrolled up & didn't realize that I repeated after 203NT had it covered.
