Deer movement slowdown

Just curious if I'm the only on not seeing deer the last few days with this warmer than normal weather? I hunted my best section 3 times over the weekend and did not see one deer...not one. That's unheard of for this section. I've still not an anterless tag and an antlered tag to fill in the next two weeks so I'm hoping something changes.

don't feel like the lone ranger. i have the same problem. talking to others here and they're in the same boat....

You have to figure that the deer population on the average has been reduced 25% over the last 2 months and this crap we are having for weather just isn't getting the deer up and moving. I hope we get a hard snow in the next week but things are not looking up for me here

Alot of it probably has to do with the warm weather...I've been seeing deer out in the middle of bean fields laying down in places they can see everything...but us that hunt shotgun have alot to do with it too..who wouldn't be timid and scared when you got slugs wizzin at your every move..give them some time and things will be back to normal...

I hunted ALL day yesterday and saw about 30 deer. Even had 2 of them within 10 feet of me. All but one were antlerless and the small 10 pointer didn't come any closer than 135 yds.

Hunted with my buddy a couple days ago and seen about 100 deer. Looked like the majority were does. We walked up the middle of a bean field at 3 p.m. and as we passed a terrace with some tall grass in it, 4 deer popped up and ran away from us.

2 more does feeding at the top of the hill in beans but they spotted us. The rest were grouped up in big timber. Hopefully we will make it out 1 more time and thin the does a little.

Seems like they were all in bean fields or heading torwards them!

Same problem. Not a lot of deer and no buck over 115 inches. Looks like it will get colder after 3 or 4 more days.
Funny how people look at you weird when you tell them you want cold and snow!

I faced the same weather last year in late muzzle loader.... and I hated it... and I hate the weather now. I'm not going late muzzle loader this year, but this warmer weather is melting all of my ice for fishing!

I havent seen much movement either, its downright boring in the woods at the moment. 90% of what I have seen is in picked fields or CRP away from timber.

Must be the "squirrel rut" though, those little buggers are going nuts. I'm talking herds of 6 or 7 at a time running through the woods like they are on crack! Fun to watch.

NWS says couple more days of this 40*-50* crap and then highs in the 20's or 30's. Its GOT to get better...

That's no joke Timber Pig me and my hunting buddies saw over 50 squirrels this weekend. I might just hunt those little turds until we get a cold snap.

Timberpig,

Actually, I think squirrels do breed in early January so guys get out there and hunt the peak of squirrel rut!

Yep....... Good ol' Ma nature is bringing us some unseasonably warmer conditions ,,,,,, again,,,,,, The deer cams have proven that most if not all mature deer movement around me here in Central WI is being done well after shooting hours.... But,,,,,, I still am out there in hopes of a change.. Our gun season kill was tremendous, with a huge buck kill,,,, Not too good, for the big deer hunters,,, But It is WI,,, and they allow these huge buck kills and for guys like me ,, Well we just have to hunt what's left , and from this point around my deer cams,,,, I have only one deer left that I am willing to go after,, and That makes things very tough,

But it is still fun,, I'll be out this aft. providing the winds die down a bit,,,,,

Good luck fellas, You have more time then we do up here, Bow season ends this Sat,

Gritty

We'll be out this PM as well hoping this small cool down today and north winds will stir things up.

Happy New Years to all of you.

OldBuck - squirrel rut, good one!!

do your part, go out and harvest squirrels, save the future sheds of the year!!

How about QSM - quality squirrel management! Since they eat acorns (buck food), chew shed antlers and make it difficult to detect incoming deer, qsm around my stands would be 'if it is brown (with a big bushy tail) it's down".

Fortunately for bushy tails I don't seem to be quite accurate enough with a bow to do much damage to the squirrel population.

LOL,,, you guys got Boone and Crockett Squirrels down there man,,, Last night was a bore here too,, not much movement till the last five minutes of shooting hours, then only antlerless deer out of range came out to feed on the fields edge,,
Did see some little reds though, I suppose they do their share of horn eatin too,,, 3 more days and I'm a bonefied squirrel hunter,

Happy New Year ,

Gritty

I had one of the little rats bust me in the stand awhile back. Of course, he couldn't leave well enough alone and sat there at 15 yards barking at me non-stop. He was screwing up a perfectly good deer hunt, so I finally I whispered to him "shut up, or I'm going to have to take you out". He didn't take my advice, and the head-on shot was perfect! A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do

Went out this afternoon and sat from 3:30 till 5:30 on some public ground. Sat in a ground blind off of about 10 acres of standing corn hoping the deer might feed before the storm. Hadn't been in this area this season but knew that the area probably had some crops left in it like a lot of public areas. Lots of sign from this season (three scrapes and A LOT of rubs) within 100 yards of my steup but not one deer seen tonite.
