i've heard rumors of a guy who will trade your deer hide for a pair of deer skinned gloves. anyone able to confirm this?

Yeah, there are a few places here up in North Iowa that do it. Up around the Osage area...

Usually any fur buyer will do it. I know when we would bring hides in that there would be guys there just with there deer hide and get a par of deer hide gloves. They are sure nice gloves.

It's true...I've got a pair from a guy that makes the rounds every fall and winter. If I can find his flyer hanging up I'll relay his name. FWIW, he always makes a stop or 2 at Farmer Nick's at the Victor exit on I-80 this time of year. His flyer always hangs right inside the front door.

Hopefully you like gloves, because he doesn't give jack for a good hide.

Our Deer Hunters Assoc has a hides for habitat program that I usually donate our doe hides to.

Hides from our bigger bucks are sold for $25.00 to a local taxidermist and an exceptional hide gets shipped out of state for a better price yet.

Its not uncommon to kill a 300 lb deer in northern Minnesota, I cannot justify a $3.00 pair of gloves for a beautiful colored extra large deer hide.
