Don't know if this has been posted yet but i read this at the bottom of the seminar list for the Iowa Deer Classic.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dale Garner, Tom Litchfield and Willie Suchy of the Iowa DNR will present the recommendations made by the deer study advisory committee and answer questions from the public.

The committee’s charge was to review, analyze, and make recommendations on issues relating to the state's deer population including but not limited to the following:
a. The current status of Iowa's deer population, harvest, and population management programs.
b. The economic impact and value of Iowa's deer population.
c. The cost of damage to crops caused by deer.
d. The number and cost of motor vehicle accidents caused by deer.
e. A review of the deer management challenges and programs of other Midwestern states.
f. An assessment of public opinion concerning the number of deer, and the impact and value of Iowa's deer population.

This is your chance to hear he results, and provide input to the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Legislature. Committee members have been invited to participate as well.

This study may have a major impact in the future of whitetail deer in Iowa.

----------------------------------------------------

With every one of these points, they are going to say, "this is why we need more tags and less deer around". I'm going to make sure they know how i feel.

I have seen a copy of the report. I belive it was presented to the legislature this week. It is 70some pages long and very well written, well up to page 19 anyway. That was all the farther I got. I have looked for a link to share but I can't find it anywhere. The information and numbers in the report are very well put together. If you are a numbers and graphs person this report will keep you busy for several hours, at least the first 19 pages did, can't say after that.

I inquired where and when with the classic crew and here is the scoop.
"It will be Saturday at 2:30 PM - "Whitetail Forum" in Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines for the Iowa Deer Classic."

Iowabucks thanks for the update, too bad I have to work. I would really like some answers to the questions I ask here all the time. Maybe you can get the answers like what is our current population of deer, what is the real goal for a total population, and those kind of things. If they get down to a population of 170,000 deer how many seasons and how many tags will we, as residents be able to get? If we drop the population back to 1980 levels how will the IDNR make up the short fall when the licenses fall back to 1980 levels, and since there were no NR licenses in 1980 will that also come to pass? Why the number of deer-car collisions per million miles driven have been going down and how far do they need to go to be satisfactory?

Boy I knew I should not have even started this because the list just grows and grows. If you do get any real answer, not just the usual double talk, could you post some of them sometime? That seems to be a pretty good group so you just might get something meaningful with some real numbers. Wish I could be there with you.

I see you must live some where around Muscatine if you work at GPC. I lived in Fruitland and Muscatine from 1970 to 1994 and still have family and friends there and do get up there fairly often. I might know you, who knows!

Yep, i live in Muscatine. Haven't worked a day in 6 months. Still locked out.

I wish i could help you with the questions, but i am going up on friday. Doesn't sound like they will be there then. The DNR always have a booth, so maybe i'll see if i can get a few answers out of them.

Maybe someone else could get some more detailed answers saturday.
