Delta Decoy's

Ballagh
Just got my flock in the mail today! Let's hear some tips and tricks to some killer setups and strageties!
Thanks,
Supertec

I've been using Deltas for about three years now. Have a hot hen, feeding hen, and a jake. I usually will put out both of the hens during spring season and will use the jake only occasionally. During the fall season I leave the dekes at home and either ambush or run-and-gun.

One tip I can give you is that a quick way to get the collapsed dekes out of your pack and ready to go is to put your hand over the hole in the bottom side of their tails and then blow into the hole where the stake goes. That will pop them into shape.

I like to set the decoys up facing towards where I think the birds will be coming from and place them a little ways past me so that any approaching bird will have to come by position while his attention is still fixed on the decoys. For far this has been a VERY effective setup.

supertec, there's a thread on the 2nd page "Decoy Setup" that has some good info, incase you haven't seen it.

wouldn't that cause a gobbler to think the hens are heading his way, and make him just hang up and strut? i would think, quartering away from where you expect him to come from, so that he would be quick to give chase, and come running

For decoys I like to use a breeding pair. I have had some spectactular results and fights with the decoys. I have one jake decoy with gashes 4 or 5 inches long down both sides from spurs. The decoy and the boss tom both lost that fight.

Good point. So far I've never had one hang up out of shotgun range.

Chad,

I like the Delta's also. I don't get to fancy, don't like to use more than 2 deeks. Set the birds facing the blind and nice and close. I've had the best responses from this set. Jealousy is great thing.
