I enjoy the random pics underneath the main index. I am constantly checking them out. A few times lately when I click on one of the pics I get this message...

"You do not have permission to view this image."

What gives? They have the pic displayed but won't let me open it for a better look.

Each member has the ability to make a private gallery. They can post the pics but members cannot view them if they want to keep them a little more private.

Kansas,

I'm with you on this one, I had that happen to me before.

It's like dangling a carrot in front of you but then saying, "you're not good enough" (Come on guys, my wife already tells me this enough)

I can completely understand keeping pics private, but why not just send a direct email to your closest friends.
Not trying to debate, just my 2 cents everybody have a great Memorial day.

Sharing photos is pretty neat but has burned more than one person on this site. So, with some photos you either keep it in your private folder or not on here at all.

The private photo folder option is just another benefit that we as members of this site can use. There are almost 100 photo folders on the site and several of them are private. This is not counting the shared folders set up for all of us to use. Why would we not honor that request that they are private and viewable by only the owner? There are over 1 million photos or videos on here and only a small fraction of them are private.

Thanks for the replies. I got no problem with folks keeping certain photos private. Just making sure I didn't have one of my settings wrong or something.

Exactly why I don't post too many photos on the internet anymore!

Yeah, I have been burned after showing a few photos too..so I try not to post to many, or let out to much info....

I guess I gotta just ask, then why even put them anywhere on the net if you don't wanna share 'em? Down load 'em to your computer and enjoy them at your will. I can't understand uploading anything that you don't want anybody else to see. I understand putting things in a place where only PMA members can see, but why even use this site to store your photos if you are the only one who can see them?

I just don't understand uploading and restricting views. If you don't want anybody else to see your photos, don't upload them.

It might not be an issue of not wanting anyone to see them, but rather who.

I have thought that the PMA harvest forum gets a little undermined by having the photos used in the threads viewable by anyone (via the galleries). I'm guessing that there are quite a few gazers that just want to see the pics and the story is secondary, especially if they have to pay for the story part. I could be wrong on that.

I've hosted images on photobucket that I didn't want to randomly scroll across the main index page (or be viewed/searched in the galleries).

Can an image from one of these "private galleries" be used to post in the forums?

I like to keep some on here just for security purposes. I think the private viewing is a personal choice. If something would happen to my computer, I want to be able to still have some of my pictures left to view.

ooo the whole land purchase thing. forgot about that. I have no problem with anyone doing it. Its sad that its even that is a worry.

Just on a side note, how many of you would keep where you shot a big buck a secret from even your closest friends??

Dwilk- backing up pics on a disc sounds a little better than using this place to save pics in case of a computer crash.

I guess my thoughts are, if I've got some pics I want to share with special folks I just email them the pics.

By the way, the random samples, though small in size, are still big enough to see what was supposed to be private. And with the users name tied to it, if they were trying to keep hush some great buck, they failed.

Wow, you learn something new everyday. When I started a folder it was just so people could look through all my pics, and when I uploaded pics I could just put them in my folder instead of figure out what part of the photo gallery it went into. I thought it was for simplicity, I never even realized they were private. It does seem strange to upload a pic on the site that nobody could view.
