Dogs for turkey?

I have read in the past that hunters have used dogs for hunting turkeys. I've never tried this tactic. If I can remember right, they were using the dogs to break up large flocks in the fall. Just wondering if anybody has tried this method of hunting or if anyone has any insight on how well it works.

Don't know but I have been pheasant hunting with friends and their dogs have pointed turkeys before. Not quite what you expect to flush up. Not sure if it is legal to use dogs to turkey hunt??? As long as you can find bird you should be able to break up the flock by yourself. Not sure how a dog would really help all that much.

legality would be your limiting factor here. most times dogs are used is in the fall to bust up a flock then use the "kee kee" call to call them back. mimic the adult hen and the babies come running in the fall.

i do something similar to that but without dogs! the night before i go turkey hunting i try to catch the birds just before they go up to roost or while they are on the roost and do what i can to get as close to the flock or tree that they are roosted in and then scream, clap my hands, and run through the woods. it has the same effect that the dogs do and it breaks up the flock! then the next morning sneak back to the same tree or same area you saw the flock and start calling. the gobbler or gobblers will always go back to where the flock broke up as fast as he can to try and get his hens back! that is an old trick my dad taught me and it has never failed for me i gat a turkey every year and so did he! also it has never failed anybody i have told the secret to! try it and then let me know how it works!
