Dogs Running loose

What do you do about dogs that have no collar and are able to run lose? I have this problem with a pack of four dogs we know where they come from and the people that have them pretty much don't have any respect for them they are just short of wild dogs. Last fall they ruined 3 hunts for me and this spring they have ruined 2 hunts for me. What would you guys do?

If they had collars i would say shoot one and leave it in the owners mailbox...that usally wake people up. I would still shoot them though. They don't seem like lost dogs looking for a home, more or less they are reverting back to their pack instincts and that usually leads to plenty of problems.

call the dog warden, it worked for me. i had this problem about 5 years ago with a german shepperd and 2 labs running a hollar that my stand was in, always ruining hunts. i let them be for a while because every once in a great while they would run deer my way. but i went to my stand one day and the german shepperd had a serious case of rabies and i had to hoot him for he was really putting the fear of god in me. after that i called the dog warden and he came and picked the 2 labs up. i hate for dogs to go to the pound but that was my last straw. with the dogs your dealing with i don't know wether it would work if they are just short of wild. good luck

22-250 with 52 gn hollow points should take care of that problem. 20 years ago there was a big pack of dogs around here. within a few weekends they were whittled down to nothing...

i'm not big on killing pets, but, these aren't pets and in a case like this i would zing them nice and quiet. if you've talked with the neighbors and the local game warden and nothing gets done i'd go out nice and secret like and put them down with a high power. then either bury them or dispose of the carcass somwhere they won't be found. then play dumb if they even care to ask about them.

Go with Moosehunters idea....22-250 works great on "wild dogs".If you don't these things will not only ruin your hunts but they will start acting like Yotes and killing animals even your own if they get the chance....

I know this goes out of my professional ethics but a wild dog is worse than a coyote or wolf. The harass the cattle, horses, deer and other wildlife stressing them leaving them wide open for disease or death. Aside from ruining hunts for you, it is against the law to allow domestic dogs to harass wildlife. Make calls to the game warden, talk to the owners if applicable, or have the dog catcher remove them....if all else fails, perform the triple S...........Shoot, shovel, and shutup

shoot them... i should have tonight i didnt get a shot at the gobbler so this yr i am empty handed again ... i see them when im out there on wed after school they are gonna meet my 22-250

just make sure if you shoot them, shoot to kill

I've heard of stories of people shooting them with their bow and the dog goes back to the house with an arrow in them

wild dogs are a big problem where i hunt, not just because they kill alot of deer but because they are harmful to people the scariest morning i ever hunted i was walking to my stand in pitch dark and i heard a growl, nasty growl and barking and it kept circling me in the dark, needless to say i climbed my stand in record time when i got there and soon founnd out there was a nice 140 class buck dead about 75 yards from my tree, no shot at the dog, but i killed two there late muzzleloader when they were killing a doe, and my dad smoked 3 with his bow

I too hate to shoot dogs, but i think you have no choice, if the owners aren't willing DNR not willing then do the SSS and get rid of them yourself. You sure don't want rabies running wild in your hunt area.

My experience with wild dogs is it only gets worse. Those four you have right now are somewhat tame but there offspring and their grandoffspring aren't going to be. The best bet is to contact the DNR. They should take care of the problem.

I don't think that putting a collar in the mailbox is such a good idea, the way things are today- you could be charged with terrorism, stalking, intimidation, or something. SSS

some of you guys are way out of line and should be ashamed of yourselves..

a .243 is definately the way to go
