I'm hunting first shotgun and all you know it opens on Saturday...but what I was trying to figure out is to either set my stand in an area that's public and has deer moving through it all the time or a secluded timber where deer seek refuge every year...we usually hunt this timber later and in the day cause it holds deer pretty well and we call it the "Slaughter House" but anyway if you guys think I should set my stand in the public you I'm thinkin I'm going to set it overlooking the state line fence, am I wrong?? Need some imput...

Have you done any scouting? If not, hunt the the fence line. You are going to hit the "slaughter house" later anyway!

Just remember you can't leave the stand on public land. They must be taken down each and every day.

Hate to see you get a ticket.

But I would say hunt where the deer like to be if the wind is right.

Good luck

...I would hunt the public area...but get there early! ...and make sure you are high enough to avoid errant slugs...I would leave your hotspot for later...if you shoot a deer in it early it might not be so hot later...

...Pupster, unless I am reading it wrong you can leave tree stands for deer (or turkey) hunting on public grounds for an extended length of time...everything else has to be removed each day...

temporary stands may be left on public land, but they must have a tag with your name and address

You are right you can leave them up. I stand corrected. I'm used to hunting waterfowl in a boat with a blind. They must be taken down 7 days after the season closes though.
